The Bilbao City Council needed to know the location, type, dimensions, and condition of accessible parking spaces within the municipality. As in almost all cities, these parking spaces have evolved over time and are often altered by urban development projects. Many become outdated or have been modified.

The ASIMOB Autonomous Urban Inspector allows for the collection of information on vertical signs and road markings in parking spaces. Dimensions are determined by measuring the length of the painted line before or after the vertical sign. Furthermore, by detecting pedestrian crossings, the system can determine the distance of the parking space from the nearest pedestrian crossing.

The system can be installed in any vehicle, allowing for the easy and rapid deployment of one or more vehicles. Although this service has only been implemented on a case-by-case basis, the system could be installed in municipal vehicles to automatically collect information on all accessible parking spaces in the municipality whenever there is a change.

This would allow city officials to make informed decisions to optimize public parking space.
