The IDEAS call for proposals from the PORTS 4.0 program, seeks to conduct Proof-of-Concept projects at the State Ports in Spain, to enable digitalization and service improvements.

The GALIBO3D project, developed by ASIMOB and funded by this call, seeks to validate an idea that helps predict whether a special vehicle will cause problems in the Port’s road infrastructure before it circulates on it. The special transport vehicles are large or heavy vehicles that have a particular impact on road assets not designed for these types of vehicles. A preventive analysis of the problems that a special vehicle can cause would minimize road risks and reduce maintenance costs.

This project has designed and defined a solution based on computer vision, LiDAR, and data analysis technologies. LiDAR allows for the generation of a cloud of points of the environment, and Computer Vision allows for the interpretation of the different elements found in that cloud of points. The ultimate goal of the service is to automatically predict which locations will require intervention in elements such as signs, traffic lights, protections, vegetation, and other road features.

The project was implemented in the second quarter of 2025, with very interesting results, demonstrating the high complementarity of clouds of points generated using LiDAR and Computer Vision.
